The Saratoga Polo
Association
Saratoga Polo is one of the
four oldest clubs in the nation dating back to 1898.
As an essential stop on the professional circuit,
Saratoga Polo represents the finest polo this
country has to offer, therefore attracting the
world’s foremost players and teams, which, in turn,
attract a high-profile audience of thousands and
gains both regional and national media attention.
Major improvements were
made to club facilities during the year 2000
including the addition of three new playing fields,
irrigation systems, and a field-side clubhouse and
patio area complete with restaurant and bar service.
These new additions not only make polo more
enjoyable for the multitude of spectators, but also
favorably position the club to host additional
tournaments that may include such highly recognized
tournaments as the U.S. Open and the International
Open if granted to Saratoga by the United States
Polo Association.
Saratoga’s Polo season traditionally runs from
mid-June to mid-September with matches scheduled
five days per week for a total of seventy matches
played. Throughout the season, Saratoga Polo hosts a
variety of events that help expand community
activities and help to benefit a number of local and
national charities. In past years, groups that
include Paul Newman’s Double H Camp for Critically
Ill Children, the YMCA, Ducks Unlimited, Vascular
Birthmark Foundation and Kidsnet have raised
hundreds of thousands of dollars for their causes.
Additionally, non-polo events such as the Club’s
Annual Golf Tournament, Polo Ball, International Art
Show, and Wine Tastings offer excellent
opportunities to entertain clients, guests, and
friends.
The surrounding countryside of Saratoga Springs and
the Adirondacks provides a relaxed atmosphere
steeped in history, yet touched with all the modern
conveniences. When not watching polo, the area
offers numerous activities including live
thoroughbred and harness racing, golf, shopping,
restaurants, top entertainment at the Saratoga
Performing Arts Center (summer home of both the NYC
Ballet and Philadelphia Orchestra), water sports and
fishing in our numerous spring-fed lakes and
mountain streams, and plenty of opportunity to enjoy
a leisurely stroll through Victorian neighborhoods
or an invigorating hike over the Adirondacks' many
scenic trails.
