PURA VIDA

Cool living on the Mexican Riveria

Here in the dead of winter in North America, as the snow piles up and the seasonal stresses abound, chances are good that you are dreaming of Mexico.  Not the modern, over-commercialized notion of Mexico – anyone can have that – but the promise of a gorgeous, tropical paradise filled with pristine sandy beaches, magnificent horses, abundant wildlife, an exquisite villa and, of course, that halcyon blue Pacific ocean.

One option this winter is Cuixmala, a 25,000 acre nature preserve that serves as the private retreat for the family of the late financier Sir James Goldsmith for part of the year.  Three magnificent palacios are available for hire at selected times throughout the year, with a range of smaller villas available on a more regular basis.

Set in lush tropical vegetation on a 3 km. stretch of golden sand beach fronting the Pacific Ocean, Cuixmala offers the unique experience for the connoisseur of privacy and luxury.

The beauty and freedom of nature meets comfort and service of the highest standard. Cuixmala features several prestigious houses for rent designed to blend light, proportions and colors with matchless space, orientation and panoramas of the beach, ocean, river and lagunas.

Surrounded by the Cuixmala Ecological Foundation which was established to protect the region's rich bio diversity, the property provides visitors up-close encounters with coati mundis, wild boars, white tail deer to name a few. Zebras, elands and gazelles can be spotted roaming freely in the exotic animal park.

Nestled amidst its wildlife is a vast coconut plantation; mango, papaya, grape fruit and citrus orchards and many other exotic fruits are grown here. In our gourmet dining all our comestibles whether dairy products, meat cuts, fruits vegetable or coffee, have been grown organically and processed in the ranch or in the Cuixmala highland farm, "El Jabali". Lobsters, oysters and shellfish are pulled from the rocks down the coast, offering guests a variety of dining options and exotic dishes for guests.

 BEACHES

There are 3 stunning private beaches untouched by civilization where guests can relax and enjoy the clear warm water in total privacy.

Caleta Blanca:  Sunny white-sand beach nestled in a calm, magical cove with a comfortable dining-sitting palapa, 2 bathrooms with showers, cooking area. Excellent for swimming, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking.

A twin-engine Boston Whailer with a boatman is available upon request to explore the coast line and the nearby islands and for fishing expeditions.

Guests must make a reservation to use this beach during their stay.

For more adventurous swimmers, Playa Escondida is an idyllic isolated wild beach. The interesting story about its name (hidden), is because is believed that pirates used to hide their treasures inside secret grottos at the beach's end.

Great parties and picnics can be organized under tribal Moroccan tents.

Playa Cuixmala:  This magnificent beach strecthes for 3 kms. and offers the most sensational walks to the river's estuary where hundreds of pelicans and seagulls gather.

Playa Cuixmala is famous for being the nestling beach for thousand of turtles. In the last 10 years more than 250,000 turtles were realesed by the preserve’s biologists.
